Hearing loss is often a gradual process which happens over a number of years. You may receive comments from family or friends; you may also find yourself needing to ask people to repeat things.
At your first hearing check we will record your responses to a series of high and low frequency sounds. This is a simple, painless process that establishes whether or not you have a measurable hearing loss.
You will be invited to be assessed by one of our Audiologists. This test will enable our Audiologist to make recommendations about what we and you can do to improve your hearing, communication and quality of life.
An Audiologist is a University trained professional who specialises in hearing assessment, hearing rehabilitation and hearing aid prescription. Audiologist will identify the level of your hearing loss and advise ways to assist you to hear better and improve your quality of life. This may involve recommending a hearing aid/s be fitted. Audiologists do not treat hearing disorders with medicines or surgical procedures.
Should hearing aids be beneficial, your Audiologist will take impressions of your ear/s so that they will fit exactly into the contour of your ear canals. Your hearing aids are custom made and this takes approximately 4 Days from the time of your assessment to the time of your fitting appointment. At your fitting appointment your hearing aids are digitally programmed and you are instructed on their use and general maintenance. After your fitting appointment we invite you back 1 weeks later to assess your progress and make sure you are obtaining the maximum benefits.
The price of hearing aids varies from several thousands -----. This is dependent on the style and technology involved in your hearing aid. It is important to discuss all possibilities with your Audiologist.
There are many different styles, features and functions of hearings aids. Your Audiologist can explain the styles, features, functions and benefits which suit your own hearing levels and lifestyle.
You should have your hearing tested regularly, like having your eyes or teeth checked. It is advisable to have your hearing tested approximately every two years. This is to check for any deterioration, if assistance is beneficial and your own peace of mind.
Provided your hearing aids are well cared for they can last for many years. It is advisable to have your hearing checked every two years to reassess your hearing levels and make any adjustments that would be beneficial.
Hearing Aids should be cleaned daily. The correct cleaning tools and instructions are provided with your hearing aid, your Audiologist will also review this process with you.
Depending on the type, usage pattern and style of your hearing aid, most batteries last from one to three weeks.
Hearing aids whistle if they are not fitting correctly in your ears. Wax blockages may also cause whistling. It is advisable to consult with your Audiologist if this occurs.
